Universal Confluence of Yoga-Vedanta Luminary (U.C.Y.L) & its activities
Aim and Object
The aim of the Universal Confluence of Yoga-Vedanta Luminary (U.C.Y.L) is to promote the study and practice of Yoga & Vedanta and to enhance spirituality in daily life. The Yoga taught is the Ashtanga Yoga of Patangali and the Vedanta is taught in the tradition of Shri Bhagavadpada Shankaracharya
Activities
To achieve its aim, the U.C.Y.L provides a variety of public activities to which all people are welcome. These include Yoga & Vedanta classes, spiritual discourses, meditation days & residential weekends, youth programmes, Hatha Yoga classes and Hatha Yoga teachers' training courses. U.C.Y.L distributes its own books, magazines and tapes and those of other Vedanta publishers. The U.C.Y.L also provides accommodation for those who wish to stay to study and practice meditation.
Founder
None of the programmes or facilities would have been possible without the invaluable efforts and teachings of the esteemed founder of the U.C.Y.L, Shrimad Paramahamsa Parivrajakacharya Svami Sadananda Sarasvati, of the Shri Bhagawadpada Shankaracharya lineage, who was the spiritual head until 1983. The U.C.Y.L was founded in November 1972 and was established in Great Britain in 1981. The present spiritual head of the U.C.Y.L is Svami Turiyananda Sarasvati.
Meditation
The meditation is taught according to the Yoga & Vedanta tradition. Meditation helps the practitioner bring the senses and mind within and stop the mind from wandering. It improves and helps to refine one's perception and to understand our own mind and senses. Meditation helps control stress and strain and stops internal conflicts and confusions. Above all it helps to understand the truth and takes the practitioner to peace, happiness and self-knowledge.
Hatha-Yoga
Hatha-Yoga is a science of controlling the body and promoting a sound health of body and mind. Its practice brings unity of mind, senses and body. U.C.Y.L teaches Hatha-Yoga in a traditional way and has systemised the Hatha-Yoga in the light of Vedantic and Yogic principles. U.C.Y.L does not consider nor teach Hatha-Yoga as a therapy or treatment, though it acknowledges its ability not only to prevent but to cure illness.
Day & Residential Weekend Events
The Day & Weekend programmes create an atmosphere in which people are inspired to learn and practice meditation, and in which peace of mind and correct understanding are promoted. The instruction and practice will help the practitioner apply the ideals of Yoga and Vedanta in day-to-day life.
